What Shall I Do Then with Jesus Which is Called Christ?

* At this time of year, our focus turns to our Savior and His influence and importance of his birth. In our world today so focused on education, money, fame, success, etc., it is hard to believe that the man who has changed the world was….

-A babe born in a stable in a village of Bethlehem

-A boy reared as a carpenter

-A citizen of a conquered nation

-A man whose mortal footsteps never went beyond a radius of 150 miles

-He never received a school degree

-Never spoke from a great pulpit

-Never owned a home

-Traveled on foot and probably without money

But even in these circumstances, we know he was a man of miracles, he healed the sick, raised the dead, caused the lame to walk and blind to see, gave himself as our Savior and Redeemer. The scriptures have referred to Jesus Christ by many different titles that help us understand his influence….Topical Guide, p. 240.

*Isaiah 9:6…”For unto us a child is born…”

So we ask ourselves the question that Pilate asked 2000 years ago…

*Matthew 27:22: “What Shall I Do Then with Jesus Which is Called Christ?”

*What do we do with his teachings, his example, his love, his power, etc. and how can we make Him an inseparable part of our lives?

Mary, as an example:

How she answered the question of what she should do with Jesus Christ in her life:

*Luke 1:28, 30 (Mary was highly favored, the Lord was with her….what does this all mean?)

*Luke 1:34, 35, 37, 38 (What are words that describe Mary? Faith, sacrifice, trusting, willing, fearful, confident, etc.)

*Mary’s testimony, Luke 1:45-54: “My soul doth magnify the Lord, Spirit rejoiceth, …”

*Luke 2: 4-7, 18-19, 51: Mary was humble, not complaining (that we know of), grateful, kept this sacred event within her heart and pondered.

What do you think Mary’s heart felt? What did she ponder at this time?

She pondered Christ’s birth in her heart.

Possibly feeling humble, grateful at the birth of the Savior, pondered sacred events, witness, calm, peaceful

*How can we take Mary’s example and apply it to ourselves?

*What can we do then with Jesus which is called Christ?

**Challenge for the week before Christmas (and after before New Year’s): to find our “Mary heart” and ponder the sacred events of Christ’s birth and other sacred events that we experience, and ask ourselves how we can better add Jesus Christ into our lives.

**President Gordon B. Hinckley shares his testimony:

“What shall we do then with Jesus which is called Christ? “For I was an hungered, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.” (Matt. 25:35–36.)

Jesus Christ is more than the symbol of a celebration. He is the Son of God, the Creator of the earth, the Jehovah of the Old Testament, the fulfillment of the Law of Moses, the Redeemer of mankind, the King of Kings, the Prince of Peace.

This is our testimony to all mankind. It is our gift and blessing to the world. He is our joy and our salvation, and we will find greater meaning in our own lives as we share these truths with others.

What shall we do with Jesus who is called Christ?

Learn of him. Search the scriptures for they are they which testify of him. Ponder the miracle of his life and mission. Try a little more diligently to follow his example and observe his teachings.

By following him, we can return to our Father and enjoy eternal life.”
